Helping Columbia

The Problem

In October of 2015, Hurricane Joaquin stalled over South Carolina, causing historic rainfall which resulted in widespread and devastating flooding across 36 of South Carolina’s 46 counties.

The Solution

SBP has partnered with state government in South Carolina to ensure that Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) groups are best equipped and supported with SBP's resources and best practices in long-term residential recovery.

SBP’s South Carolina operation, based out of Columbia is working to rebuild homes and train other local organizations, such as Home Works, in the utilization of SBP’s proven effective model, thereby raising the efficacy of the recovery statewide.

Additionally, SBP is working closely with several local and state level partners including the United Way of the Midlands, The One SC Fund and the Michael J. Mungo Foundation, as well as government officials at the local, state and Federal levels, to advise and sustain the long term recovery of South Carolina moving forward.
