Summer of Service with SBP

Our founders, Zack Rosenburg and Liz McCartney, established SBP to combat the damages disasters have on homes and communities. Their mission: to shrink the time between disaster and recovery; eliminating unnecessary suffering by helping those affected by disasters to rebuild and recover. This is done by cultivating resilience before disasters occur and streamlining the post-disaster recovery process.

With the tremendous support of donors, volunteers and corporate partners, SBP has grown from a three-person volunteer team - focused solely on rebuilding - into a nationally recognized leader in comprehensive disaster resilience and recovery; with more than 65 employees and 240 AmeriCorps members. Since its founding, SBP has rebuilt homes for more than 1,500 families, with the help of more than 100,000 volunteers at the following locations: Houston, TX; Brazoria County, TX; New Orleans, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; Joplin, MO; Rockaway, NY; Monmouth & Ocean Counties, NJ; San Marcos, TX; Columbia, SC; Puerto Rico.

SBP’s success in rehabilitating homes and communities is made possible by the hard work and generosity of our volunteers. Even with no prior experience, a single volunteer is able to mud and spackle several rooms, install a new floor or paint a small house - and our on-site training (led by experienced AmeriCorps site supervisors) enables our volunteers to take on even larger projects (those experienced in framing, electrical, plumbing and/or cabinetry should inform the Volunteer Department to be allotted to a specialty team).

To join one of our efforts, please select a location via our Volunteer page. SBP welcomes both professionals and retirees, as well as high school and college graduates to aid our mission - and for students - what better time to volunteer than during summer break?

Additionally, you can aid disaster-impacted families by becoming an SBP Ambassador. SBP Ambassadors commit to:
