With hurricane season officially here, now is the time to prepare your home, family, and community.
The Atlantic hurricane season is June 1st through November 30th, and meteorologists are forecasting a very active storm season, with nineteen named storms, nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes predicted.
We know firsthand that hurricanes are one of nature's most powerful and destructive events that affect the communities in their path. At SBP, we want to empower individuals to prepare their homes and families by taking action now.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare in advance for the 2022 storm season and shrink the time between disaster and recovery.
Know Your Risk

Find out what types of wind and water hazards could happen where you live, and then start preparing how to handle them.
Know if you live in an area prone to flooding and if you’re safe to remain in your home.
Update Your Insurance
Contact your insurance company or agent and ask for an insurance check-up to make sure you have enough insurance to repair or even replace your home and belongings. Keep in mind home and renters insurance doesn’t cover flooding, so you’ll need a separate policy for it.
For current policyholders, these rising construction costs have a significant impact on claims handling. Coverage limits may need to be adjusted in order to ensure full recovery on a house needing significant repairs or a full rebuild after a loss.
Strengthen Your Home
Whether you’re evacuating or planning to ride out the storm, make sure your home is in good repair and you have all the supplies you will need.
Regularly inspect your roof and property to ensure your home is clear of hazards. A property inspection checklist will come in handy when a storm is approaching your area.
Put A Plan Together
Now is the time to begin planning where you would go and how you would get there in the event of an evacuation. Having a family disaster plan will help your entire household be ready in the event of a major or minor storm.
Make sure to take an inventory of all your belongings and have copies of all your important documents.
