Puerto Rico Recovery Operations

SBP has been on the ground in Puerto Rico since 2018 and has built more homes than any other organization to date. Our team disaster response teams are currently deployed to visit communities, evaluate storm damages, and assess where our support is most needed. Every day our team works simultaneously in 8 to 12 homes, driving forward recovery construction work so that each client can return to a safe and secure home. We do this through our construction model based on the Toyota Production System, trained AmeriCorps members, and passionate volunteers. This model enables us to rebuild at a fraction of the cost of regular private contractors, which helps us ensure that we can continue our work for more families.

SBP’s rebuilding services provide long-term peace of mind to survivors: we rebuild roofs to FORTIFIED standards to protect them against high-intensity winds; utilize high-quality roof sealers to prevent water intrusion; reinforce connections between the roof, floor, and walls to improve the structural integrity of the home; repair cracks and fissures in exterior walls to prevent water and air from entering, and use hurricane-resistant aluminum doors and windows to protect openings.
