Rentals

Disasters do not only affect homeowners. Renters may be even more vulnerable to disasters as they tend to be lower-income, and the price of un-damaged housing often rises after a large disaster. To better weather future disasters, low-income renters need resilient homes that are affordable to them. Through SBP’s rental units, we provide stable and safe housing options to low- and moderate-income renters. Currently, SBP has 125 rental units in New Orleans, with plans to build more in New Orleans, Houston, and other communities where we operate.

The St. Peter Apartments

St. Peter Apartments is a 50-unit, mixed-income, energy-efficient apartment community that is centrally located near Whole Foods, Lafitte Greenway, and the VA Hospital in New Orleans’s Mid City neighborhood. The St. Peter is Louisiana’s first net-zero energy apartment building and offers one and two-bedroom units, off-street parking, and community space.

St. Claude Gardens

St. Claude Gardens has 60 rental units across 30 sites in the Lower Ninth Ward. The two- and three-bedroom duplex units are built using the FORTIFIED standard to withstand high winds and are Energy Star certified with energy-efficient appliances. The units serve households making up to 60% of the area median income ($42,060 for a family of 4).

Scattered Site Rental Homes

SBP also manages 15 rental homes scattered throughout New Orleans, serving households at or below 60% of the area median income. With funding from the City of New Orleans, SBP rehabbed blighted and vacant duplexes, turning them into permanently affordable units.
